Aim of ZIP Files

The main and commonly purpose of zipping a file is data compression. Enyone can easily share there media and other content in a zip file without compromising on the quality.

Data compression—this is a way of encoding structured data—so that it also takes up less space when stored on a computer-based system. It basically involves re-encoding information using fewer bits than its original representation.

Advantages of ZIP

You can compress any folder or file to a great extent using the Zip file format. Thus, it can help you save more space on the hard disk.

Zipping supports data encryption—which is beneficial when you are sharing private or important data over the Internet.

It is easy to share/transmit zipped files over internet. This usually helps a user to significantly reduce the transmission time.

The minimum size of a ZIP file is 22 bytes. It is an empty file containing only one EOCD (End of Central Directory Record).

It allows the user to encrypt and secure private data.

Zip files improve the integrity of information and media.
