FULL FORM OF CSP
CSP stands for Concentrating Solar Power and also Concentrating Solar
Thermal Power (it generates solar power by using mirrors or lenses to
concentrate a large area of sunlight into a receiver.
MEANING OF CONCENTRATING SOLAR THERMAL POWER (CSP)
Concentrating solar thermal power CSP) it is used to generate
electricity by converting energy from sunlight to power a turbine, but
the same technologies is also used to deliver heat to a variety of
industrial applications, like water desalination, enhanced oil recovery,
food processing, chemical production and mineral processing.
In other words, this is the process of harvesting solar energy uses
mirrors to reflects and concentrate sunlight into a single point, where
it’s converted into thermal energy or heat. the heat can then be used to
produce electricity.
WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF CONCENTRATING SOLAR THERMAL POWER
(CSP)?
There are four types of concentrating Solar thermal Power are given
below:
Linear concentration
Dish/Engine system
Power Tower system
Thermal storage
LINEAR CONCENTRATION
the sun’s energy is focused into a fluid-filled receiver tube, and when
it’s heated it spins a turbine to power a generator.
DISH/ENGINE SYSTEM
This smaller, less efficient CSP system uses a dish of mirrors to
concentrate sunlight into a point to heat a liquid, powering an engine
that produces electricity.
POWER TOWER SYSTEM
A group of flat mirrors track the sun and reflects sunlight directly into a
receiver that is affixed on a tall tower. Most tower function by heating a
liquid to power a generator, but some experimental designs use molten
salts to facilitate more efficient transfers of energy.
THERMAL STORAGE
Most solar power system are limited by the inability to produce energy
after sunset or on cloudy days. Thermal storage system enables solar
power systems to concentrate thermal energy directly into a storage
system or battery.
Concentrated Solar Power system are usually large so, they mostly
used by utility companies.
