TG (Turbine Generator)

What is Turbine Generator  – A Turbo Generator is an electric generator
connected to the shaft of a steam turbine or gas turbine for the generation of
electric power. Large steam power turbo generators provide the majority of the
world’s electricity and are also used by steam-powered turbo-electric ships. Small
turbo generators driven by gas turbine are often used as auxiliary power units
(APU, mainly for aircraft).


History of Turbo Generator

The first turbo generators were electric generators
powered by water turbines. The first Hungarian water turbine wasdesigned by the
engineers of the Ganz Works in 1866; Indian scale production with dynamo
generators started only in 1883. Engineer Charles Algernon Persons demonstrated
a DC steam-powered turbo-generator using a dynamo in 1887 and by 1991 had
supplied the first large industrial AC turbo generator of megawatt power to a plan
in Eberfeld, Germany.
Turbo Generators were also used in steam locomotives as a power source for
coach lighting and water pumps for heating systems.
Difference Between Generator and Turbo Generator- Turbines and generators
are both used in the production of electric power, but the turbine converts
available energy forms into rotation while the generator converts rotation into
electricity.

stream.

· Small turbo generators are operated through gas-turbines, so they are used
frequently like APU (auxiliary power unit).

· These are engine generators that used diesel fuel for controlling the engine
on-site.

· These generators are used wherever emergency and standby power is
required when a utility power failure occurs.

· Turbo generators are used in hospitals in case of power loss.
· It is used in different power plants like solar power plants, thermal power
plants hydropower plants etc.
