PWD full form
PWD stands for the Public Works Department, is an Indian government body. PWD is responsible for constructing and maintaining public infrastructures like Public government buildings, roads, bridges, public transport, drinking water systems, and much more. Each state has its PWD it is also divided geographically divided into division, subdivision, and units. In Rajasthan, Punjab, Mizoram, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh Arunachal Pradesh, and other state has separate PWD. In every state PWD is separated, so every state releases its vacancies. In PWD there are many vacancies like Architecture, civil engineer, Mechanical Engineer, etc.
PWD History
In 1854 PWD has established at the request of Governor-General Lord Dalhousie’s proposal. Since the eighteenth century, East India Company had been building roads. To relieve the responsibility of the military for the infrastructure purpose they have made separate departments. In 1849 A civil department of the public was established in Punjab it served as the PWD model. From that time administration of royal and public work was carried by the Military engineering department. Thus, chief engineers were recruited to replace boards, under the general direction of a Central Public Works Secretariat in Calcutta, with the goal of expediting the process of public "reform". 1866 – 1868 PWD was divided into three parts that are Civil Branch, Railways Branch, and Military work branch.
