What is WordPad?


WORD PAD

Word pad is a primary word processor that has been included in all versions of Microsoft windows. It is more advanced than Window Notepad and simpler than Microsoft word. It is usually used for creating and modifying documents. Word pad was introduced in Windows 95, replacing Microsoft write, which came with all previous versions of windows. The WordPad file is saved with extension.rtf but it is more advanced than Microsoft Notepad.

 

 

WORDPAD FEATURES: -

 

WordPad is a basic text editing application you can use to create and edit files, include text with different fonts and colours, inserts pictures, and add links to other files. WordPad can format and print text, including fonts, bold, italic, coloured, and centred text., Etc. but lacks vital functions such as a spell checker, thesaurus, and control over pagination. It does not support footnotes or endnotes.

 

 IMPORTANT PARTS OF THE WORDPAD WINDOW: -

 

CONTROL ICON: -

This icon is located in the top left corner of the WordPad window. Clicking this icon or pressing the alt+ space bar opens a small menu with six options: restore, move, size, minimize, maximize and close.

TITLE BAR: -

This icon shows the text documents WordPad if you have already saved the document you are working on at least once and named it, the bar shows its file name and extension instead of the word document

 CONTROL BUTTON: -

The three-control button in the upper right corner of the WordPad window allows you to minimize, maximize restore, or close it. the second button changes both appearance and function depending on the window's status. 

MENU BAR: - 

The menu bar is immediately below the title bar and provides access to WordPad option menus.

TOOLBAR: -

The toolbar is located below the menu bar and provides button shortcuts to frequently used options such as open, save, and print.

FORMAT BAR: -

The format bar is located below the toolbar and provides options for text formatting, such as font selection, text colour, or alignment, in the form of drop-down menus and buttons. 

RULER: -

The ruler is located below the format bar and provides options for paragraph indention in the form of three small vertical arrows and a square. 

DOCUMENT AREA: -

The document area is the largest part of the WordPad windows and holds your document. this area is where you type and format your text; you can navigate it using either your mouse or your keyboard.

SCROLL BAR: -

A scroll bar appears when the contents of your documents are too long or too wide to fit in the WordPad windows.

STATUS BAR: -

The status bar is located at the very bottom of the WordPad window, under the document area

 HOW TO CREATE A NEW DOCUMENT ON WORDPAD: -

 

 

To create a new document in WordPad you have to launch the WordPad application.

Step 1: - Select start

Step 2: - Enter ‘WordPad’ in the search box.

Step 3: - A list of search results will appear on the screen. Select the WordPad app to launch WordPad. If you followed the previous steps, you should have a WordPad open in front of you. To create a new document, follow the given steps.

Step 4: - Select the file

Step 5: - Choose new

 A blank document should open which you will be able to edit. Alternatively, select a file and choose open to open and edit existing documents.

HOW TO SAVE YOUR WORDPAD DOCUMENTS

 

STEP 1: - Press CTRL+ S

Step 2: - Choose the location, where you want to save your WordPad document.

Step 3: - Click on the save icon then your Document will save
